LO1: Treatment (Chosen idea)
TREATMENT
THE BRIEF
The brief is to produce a original documentary short film lasting between 5-15 minutes, denoting the idea of how technology has taken over the young generations lives.
TARGET AUDIENCE
The target audience for the short film would apply to any genders as it the film will include a female and a male to follow on the experiment so that it will be relatable and come out with a different result. The age however would be applying to 12-40 year olds as this will be aiming at the newer generation that have been introduced to mobile phones and would know the addiction that they come with. The ABC1 would be 90% as they would need enough disposable income to afford to pay for a mobile phone in the features that we would require, such as social media. The C2DE would be 10% as some people would have phones even if they didn't get enough disposable income for other applicances.

SEGMENT SYNOPSIS AND HOW IT RELATES
TO THE BRIEF
My brief will be denoting how technology (mobile phones, TV and laptops) have consumed our lives today and maybe do a real experiment with having two volunteer to go a week without technology and the volunteers document how they feel about it. It will include facts and statistics about how technology has changed peoples lives to make the short film seem surprising and shocking. The effect on the viewers would make them realise how much is has consumed their lives and hopefully encourage people to give up their mobile phones. The short film would be a documentary film as it will be documenting the two volunteer's journey on how they cope without their phone.
CONTINGENCIES
My backup plan would be using the client 'Sheffield Flourish', to share awareness of certain mental illness' such as Anxiety disorder and Panic attacks. The short film will consist of denoting a young teenagers everyday life through when she wakes up and exagerate events that occur in her mind throughout her life. This film would also consist of facts and statistics about the illness to educate the audience more on the illness.

Ofcomm creates the guidelines for content on TV and radio, our projects comes under TV. The regulations are set to protect children so it is important to follow those guidelines, however our project does not have any content that would not not follow the guidelines. The guidelines that apply to us are:
Under the Broadcasting Code, Rule 1.28 states that due care must be
taken over the physical and emotional welfare and the dignity of
children who take part or are involved in programmes. This is
irrespective of whether consent has been given by the participant or by a
parent or guardian. Rule 1.29 states that people under 18 must not be
caused unnecessary distress or anxiety by their involvement in
programmes or by the broadcast of those programmes.
In 2007, for broadcasters on the participation of young people
in programmes, reflecting the need for the welfare of child participants

DISTRIBUTION
The distribution of the short film would be the internet such as YouTube, Social Medias and BBC Three. We feel that this is the most suitable platforms for our film as the content on these platforms is similar to that of our film. It is also the easiest to access and would apply to our target audience who use technology and would be relatable.

LO1: Treatment (My Own)
TREATMENT – Hermione Archer
THE BRIEF
The brief is to produce an original documentary short film lasting
between 5-15 minutes.
TARGET AUDIENCE
The target audience for my short
films would be both male and female, as the synopsis would be relatable to
them. I think that the age of the audience would be around 20-40 because I
think that the film would be aimed at a slighter older audience as they would
appreciate the film. The social grade of the audience would be ABC1 about 90%
because of the film would only be accessible on the Internet, this requires the
audience to have access to the internet. The remaining 10% of the audience be of
the social grade C2DE.
SEGMENT SYNOPSIS AND HOW IT RELATES TO THE BRIEF
My film would be around 10 minutes
long and will monitor the journey of a £5 note. I would write on a £5 note my
name, phone number and a brief explanation of what to do, then spend the money
and hope that people get back to me. When I get responses I would ask for a
photo, how they got it and where they got it. Eventually with enough
information I would be able to track the £5 around the country. I would hope to
include other information about £5 notes are they tend to not last very long.
CONTINGENCIES
My backup plan would be using the client 'Sheffield Flourish', to share awareness of certain ‘mental illness' such as Anxiety disorder and Panic attacks. The short film will consist of denoting a young teenagers everyday life through when she wakes up and exaggerate events that occur in her mind throughout her life. This film would also consist of facts and statistics about the illness to educate the audience more on the illness.

PROPS AND MODELS
The models/characters will be unknown, as I don’t know who will end up with the £5 note.
The models/characters will be unknown, as I don’t know who will end up with the £5 note.
The main prop will be the £5 note.
HEALTH AND SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS.
I will only film the introduction,
which would be me handing over the £5 note to a shop to pay for something.
After, the next part of the films will be a collection of maps and photographs
to build a timeline of the £5 notes journey.
LEGAL AND ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS.
I must seek permission off the
people would sent me photos, make sure that I am okay to upload some
information about them.
I also must get permission to film
in a shop for my introduction.
I should also consider Ofcom
regulations.
DISTRIBUTION
The distribution of the short film
would be the Internet, preferably YouTube because I think that it would be very
accessible also preferably for my target audience. It would also be available
on a website specifically for short films.

LO1: Analysis of Existing Films #4
There is very little variety In the shots that are used as there is only one location that is used and it is also a very confided space. The one main shot used throughout the film and it is a medium shot of the elevator as the doors open and close. the other shot used is a close up shot of the people in the elevator and of the number floor that the elevator is on.
The only location used in this film is the elevator as the film is about the journey of a man from the ground floor to the 9th floor. The clothing that the characters were are just shirts and tops, some of which look like holidays shirts as they are patterned and bright colours.
Throughout the film not a single word is said, so the story behind the film is interpreted through the characters movements and facial expressions. The main character is the first to enter the elevator on the ground floor. As he has to stop at every floor to add people, we notice that he becomes worried as he begins to calculate the combined body weight of all the people in the elevator. When the elevator reaches floor 5, creaking noises begin to emerge from the elevator and it suddenly drops back all the way down to the 2nd floor. when is finally arrives back at the 5th floor, the main character runs from the elevator as a very large man enters the elevator. be this may not have been a good move for him as then goes into the next elevator fill of ill people suspected of swine flu.
The editing of the film is very basic, the title is the default a sans-serif font and the credits just flick on the screen then leave several seconds later.
LO1: Analysis of Existing Films #3
For the first 5 minutes of the film, the shots alternate between a wide shots and close ups of the 2 people on the bench. Then the shots change to over the shoulder shots, tracking shots and shot reverse shots are the 2 go around the city handing out post-it notes.
The main location use is the bench by the bus stop as this is where to main 2 characters meet. Then the next location is around the streets of a city as the 2 characters move from the bench.
The film is called Post It and is starts by 2 people who meet at a bus stop and they start a conversation about the contents of the box that one of the characters has. The contents includes post-it notes which the characters then decided to use to say nice thins about people.
The film consist of the conversation between the two sat on the bench, then their is brief conversation between them and some of the people that they say nice things to.
The main editing technique used is shot reverse shot as the 2 characters have a conversation throughout the majority of the film. At almost exactly 5 minutes into the film the type of shot change and start to be much wider and further away so that we can see the surroundings that the 2 are in.
LO1: Analysis of Existing Films #2
The film starts with every other clip being a close up of the girls face, this is used so we see right into the young girls eyes to see her emotions. The rest of the clips are fairly similar just medium to wide shots of the girl and her surrounds. What does change to connote the mood is the use of lighting, the start of the film is very dark. Then as the girls life begins to change for the better we see the clips are much brighter and clearer.
At the start of the film, the main location used is the home of the girl, as this is where we see the abuse happen. Then the next locations include her at school and being past around from home to home.
The short film is about the young girl and the abuse that she suffers at home and how she suffers in silence because their is no one around her who cares. The girl believes that she is unwanted, until her life is changed when she is taken into care.
The main scripting in this film is the girl who talks over the film, she explains the emotions that she feels as her life begins to change. There is also brief conversation that we hear such as the arguing between the parents, and of the carers.
The editing of the footage has been done very well they have used techniques such as jump cuts to create dramatic effect. The use of editing techniques adds to the emotion and tells us how we such feel at that point. Another way that we feel emotion is through the background music that is used, the main music is a piano background piece, this piece of music is used to reflect the times when the girl is not happy and trapped. The music when she is at home with her mum and brother is much faster and louder compared tot he music towards the end of the films, this connotes the terror and fear of that situation. Then at the end of the film when her brother comes to stay with her, is much more upbeat and we know that at this time is when things start to get better for her.
There is only one main title edit used about 2 minutes into the film, then the next text appears at the end of the film. This is the credits that scroll up the screen.
LO1: Analysis of Existing Films #1
Short Film 1
Throughout this film there is a variety of shot types used, shot reverse shot is often used because there the 2 characters do a lot of talking to each other. I also noticed that the in this film the lighting reflects the mood at that point, so at the start of the film the lighting is much brighter and happy. Then as the emotion becomes more angry the lighing changes to a much darky, dim light. Also throughout the film the lighting is very soft.
The film uses a variety locations, mainly cafes, restaurants and their apartments. The large majority of the locations are public places, I noticed that this is where the couple take most of the photos that they post online.
The film is the story of a young couple and how they relationship is heavily effected by technology, specifically social media. At the start of the film we see Jen (the girlfirend) glued to her phone, documenting their relationship. A year into their relationship we start to see the mood change, the couple argue over phone usage.
The film has little scripted lines, the film mainly focuses on the emotions of the characters show through their facial expressions. The most of the scripted conversations started about half way through the film as they start to argue and we can hear what they argue about.
The post production editing is mainly images added in that the couple have posted and also text message conversations. Throughout the film we see have the tone of the messages begin to change as does the music to much darker and less lively. the music gets faster and louder as the couple begin to argue over the use of their phones as it starts to effect their relationship. The music then reverts back to the original music as they start to build back their relationship again.
